VT Women's Fund 2011 Grant Round Q & A

  1. Jackie,

The VWF does not have an approximate cost per participant ratio target. It depends upon the work being done.

  2. Emily,

The Strategic Partner Awards are part of a proactive partnership that we are fostering with a few organizations in the state. The Partners were not selected thought an RFP process.

  3. Hi Sonja,

We have done some funding for planning in the past, so we would consider it.

  4. I have been trying to log on and hope that this is where I am supposed to be?

  5. If you are looking for the Vermont Women's Fund, you are in the right place.

  6. That's great! This is Debby with the TLP Program in Bennington. I know some discussion has been around the 3 year cycle. Does that mean that if we could do a proposal to last the 3 years it would be $10,000 a year or would it be for more?

  7. Are there particular sources for demographic/statistical data that you consider more reliable?

  8. Thanks, just curious about the Strategic Partners Awards, sounded really interesting.

  9. Hi Debby,

There is a possibility that your program could receive a grant for more than one year, but it would require reapplying and demonstrating growth and change within the program. Each year the grant cap is $10,000 and we cannot guarantee that your program would be funded each year.

  10. Emily,

We do not have particular sources in mind for demographic/statistical data. We are interested in seeing whatever date you feel is most current and applicable to your program and its participants.

  11. Thank you that has allowed me to configure the direction in which we would like to grow with the current grant you have given us.

  12. Once a grant is tweeked per se, Can we still call and run the project by you?

  13. Hi, this is Sara from Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains. Thanks so much for hosting this! Two questions:
    1) Since it's a re-application each year, would you rather see only a single-year budget, or also a multi-year budget?

    2) Are letters of support from groups with which we collaborate or from alumnae of the program appropriate and welcome?

  14. On the Project Budget page, would any allocations we have made in our own budgets toward an expense show in both the 'amount' column and the 'inkind' column? I guess what I am asking is how do we distinguish between the monies we may have built into our own organizational budget toward the program and monies that we would consider 'inkind' to go toward developing the program to a greater capacity with the help of VWF? Does this make sense?

  15. We welcome calls to discuss current and future projects at any time.

This is Sarah from Central Vt Community Action - We would love to learn more about the new focus and direction of the VWF - and how that ties into grantmaking - besides reading the information on the website. Is there a good way to do this?

  17. Hi, Sara,

    1) A single-year budget is what we would need to see since the grant funds need to be used during the grant award period.

    2) Letters of support from collaborative partners are welcome if they relate to a key component of your project.

  18. just a quick reminder to everyone to frequently refresh your web browser for the most current Q & A.

    Thanks!

  19. Emily,

The VWF considers 'in-kind' support to be things such as: donated supplies, office space, phone service, etc. I am not sure if this is the type of in-kind support you are referring to. It might be easier for you to call and discuss the particulars of your budget.

  20. Sarah,

You can call us to talk more about our new focus and how it plays out in our grantmaking. Also, be aware that the 'New for 2011' page on our web site provides good background on our new focus.

  21. If we received a grant from you this year and the project has been successful can we still apply to continue and add onto the program?

  22. Yes, as long as the age-range and focus on economic security fits with our new initiative.

  23. Thank you, a site visit was done and I think she agreed that it does fit into the new initiative.

  24. As I understand it, the new initiative of VWF has to do with the goal of building increased economic security for young women. I am wondering how grant reviewrs will view applications for programs that do not directly address economic advancement, but can be construed as doing so indirectly. Without going into any rationale here, are applications for programs such as parenting groups going to be considered? Is that too much of a stretch? Any comments on this are appreciated.

    Steve

  25. Hi Steve,

With the goal of future economic security in mind, we are looking to fund programs that emphasize education, training, job-readiness, life skills, leadership, experiential learning, self-advocacy, expanded vision and opportunities for success.

Without knowing the specifics, a parenting program does seem like a stretch.
